Books I bought recently:

  • The Magus - The story of Nicholas Urfe, a young Englishman who accepts a teaching assignment on a remote Greek island. There his friendship with a local millionaire evolves into a deadly game, one in which reality and fantasy are deliberately manipulated, and Nicholas must fight for his sanity and his very survival.
  • Mythago Wood - The protagonist discovers “mythagoes,” which are created from wood and embody racial archetypes.
  • 2001: Space Odyssey - When an enigmatic monolith is found buried on the moon, scientists are amazed to discover that it’s at least 3 million years old. Even more amazing, after it’s unearthed the artifact releases a powerful signal aimed at Saturn.
  • Trainspotting - An authentic, unrelenting, and strangely exhilarating episodic portrait of young addicts in Edinburgh.
  • Old School - The protagonist of Tobias Wolff’s first novel is a boy at an elite prep school in 1960. He is an outsider who has learned to mimic the negligent manner of his more privileged classmates. Like many of them, he wants more than anything on earth to become a writer.
